Busting EV Myths in India

Busting EV Myths In India

Sustainability and environmental conservation have been a hot topic of debate and concern over the period of time. Adopting electric vehicles or EV revolution is one major step in this direction. This becomes all the more important for a country like ours that is counted amongst the top six polluted countries. As much as the EV wave is appreciated and embraced, various myths surround it that still needs to be busted. Here is Aaveg’s take on some common EV related myths

Myth- Transport does not contribute to carbon emissions

On the contrary, transport is one of the major contributors to climate change and accounts for significant greenhouse gas emissions in India. As per the report by Global Carbon Project, India is one of the major carbon-emitting countries. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also states that the transportation sector in India is currently the third-largest emitter of CO2. The reports of the capital city exhibiting poor air quality index is also a testimony of the same. Thus, it can be said that transportation remains a significant contributor to this health hazard!

Myth- The emissions impact of an EV is higher than ICE vehicles

EVs have the capacity to convert approximately 60% of the energy from the grid to the wheels. Conventional vehicles are capable of conversion of merely 20% from petrol to the wheels. Be it petrol, diesel or CNG vehicles, all of them emit considerable levels of pollutants.

EVs in fact are an eco-friendly option and come with the promise of zero emissions. They help in reducing air pollution and also possess the potential to reduce emission levels of greenhouse gases.

Myth- India is not a feasible market for EVs

India has a vision of achieving zero emissions by 2070. The government has also announced the goal of meeting 50% of the country’s energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030. It is also aiming that India will reduce the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes and that the carbon intensity will be reduced by less than 45% by 2030. These statistics are indicative of the fact that the country possesses the potential to build a robust system for the EV market!

The bottom line

Undoubtedly, India will soon be the hub of Electric Vehicles. Considering the pace at which the EV market is booming in India, the electric vehicles will soon be mainstream! The requisite support from the government as well as the shift in consumer preference and corporate organizations especially the employee transportation and shuttle providing firms embracing the EV path will further push the growth of the electric vehicles market in India. If this happens, India’s roads will soon be pollution-free. The EV wave will not only be beneficial for the health of the citizens but will also position India as a climate leader in the times to come!
